I sat in the sanctuary Sunday, and it felt VAST. Some might think of it as “empty…” but there
was a huge sense of space and a connection to beyond the walls. I realized
that Our Church circle is SO WIDE! We were gathered, in our own homes, but
each of us was there standing, kneeling, sitting, and praying together before our God. Your home is a “room” in the House of God if
we gather in the name of Jesus Christ.
Kid’s club has been talking a lot about how we do not do
“random” acts of kindness. We do them on
purpose! We do INTENTIONAL acts of kindness in the name of Jesus Christ. We do them because Jesus asked us to do
them! God helps us to do them! It is part of who we are and WHOSE we are as God’s beloved children.
One activity from Kids Club is the “I CAN” cube. It helps to remind us that, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). You can do
this at home. Take an empty square box,
or make one, or take an old block, and decorate it with 6 ways you CAN help. Let everyone in the family contribute. Some ideas from kids club: I can remember… I can serve… I can tell… I
can pray… I can hope… I can share… I can sing. Keep
your “I CAN” cube at your dinner table.
When you gather for meals
· - light a candle
· - say your blessing
· -take turns tossing the I CAN cube
· - each person completes the “I CAN” that is face
up by naming something they can do.
Option: “We CAN” cube: everyone
completes the “We CAN” and decide on one thing that you will do together as a
family that evening/day/week.
· -Concluding Prayer:
Dear God, we are glad we can help.
Help us remember when we help other people we make Jesus
happy.
Amen. (From our
Growing in Grace and Gratitude, PCUSA curriculum)
We remember that around God’s table,
we are all able.
Children need to know that they are NOT powerless. Remember, our service is in the name of Jesus,
and the power of the Holy Spirit makes us able.
On Sundays, we would usually gather around the communion table to be reminded
that we are God’s people and we can serve in Jesus’ name. You and your family can gather around your
home table to remember that you are able to serve in Jesus’ name. During these times, we are still “churching”
in our own homes. We gather together
through Livestream, Zoom, YouTube Channel, Website, and Facebook Live in the name of Jesus Christ as the
people of Second Church. We are still
“church.” Our church is just
bigger. Our church circle is just wider. Each home is a room in the Second
Presbyterian Church House of God. We are
“churching” where we are; we are ALL able around God’s table!
We will “see” you in church! #holdingfaithtogether
Peace,
Kat.
